I just can't figure these folks out.

You can't see GEDCOMS you upload because they have a little snag...

Just went to search there and found pages and pages of broken links to my old - as in nearly two years old - genealogy blog that I used to host at LiveJournal before it became overrun with spammers.

So I went to try and contact customer service through their online email form.

That won't display the category of contact you want to make, so conveniently, they can't get your input.
Here's what I would have said to them, if their contact form had worked.

I'm trying to give your website a fair shot before I blog about it again.

You still have links to the genealogy blog I used to have at LJ on your website. That blog was taken down over a year ago, after I had posted the redirect link to the new blog for several months. In addition, twice now over the last year - as recently as two weeks ago - I've given you the link to the new blog, which is nowhere to be found on your website.

The "new" blog - which has been in existence since June 13, 2011 - is http://http://dee-burris.dreamwidth.org/.

I quit reporting broken links to the old one after two pages of results.

Surely you guys can keep up better than this.

I've just uploaded selected partial surname GEDCOMS to Mocavo to see if we can get more robust search results.

The only search results I ever seem to get on my ancestors are the Find a Grave memorials I've created.

And I get dupes on those.

ETA: None of my uploads are showing yet.

ETA again: After two days, I sent an email to Mocavo, asking when the GEDCOMS would actually show up in my account settings, so I could name them. I also asked if, since I was giving them free information, anyone would be charged to view it. Here's the reply I got:
I apologize that the tree is not viewable at this point in time. This feature will be up shortly, we are just experiencing a couple bugs right now. We are not charging people to see your information, searching on Mocavo Basic is free.

I waited another day, still couldn't view my own uploads in my account settings, and deleted them.

Just about everyone has blogged about last week's launch of a new genealogy search site called Mocavo, whose creator calls it The Largest Free Genealogy and Family Tree Search Engine.

But Cliff Shaw does not seem to like much of the feedback he's getting on those blogs from veteran researchers who are used to having to dig in some fairly obscure places for family history information and who take exception to Shaw's definition of sources of "non-genealogy results" from that *other* search engine.

Kerry Scott over at Clue Wagon gave her review of Mocavo and went, as she said, "Debbie Downer" on it, and gave specific examples of where it missed the mark.

Other commenters, including I, have added to those.

Shaw keeps coming back with a challenge to commenters to add to his database for him, and consistently fails to answer one of Kerry's questions...what's his business model and does he have a sponsor?

Huh? Not what I would expect from a dot com.

I haven't dug through musty vaults and dodged snakes in cemeteries, or spent hours and hours online, chasing internet leads to give it away to someone to line their pockets.

He needs better answers than he's giving.
