Blogger is giving me fits today...

Several of the blogs I read hosted at Blogger are having trouble verifying my LiveJournal Open ID credentials as I post comments today.

On some of them, four tries before I was allowed to leave a comment.

I'm persistent. Comments were left.

But I was thinking of moving my everything else blog over to Blogger, and I wouldn't want other folks getting frustrated when they try to use Open ID to leave a comment, and just give up.

Anyone else going through multiple attempts for Open ID verification? If so, details please...

Maybe it's just a Blogger/LJ thing.

It does cause me problems. Especially if I've cleared my browser cache or history (frequently lately). And when there are sun spots...

Both Blogger and Open ID are just about impossible on my cell phone. I never comment then.

But I thank you for persevering.

I use blogger

I have trouble going to live journal and sometimes I do give up, leaving no comments.

I've had a problem with Blogger and OpenID; I'd just forgotten about it, because it's been a while since I got a Blogger account and started using that instead. What it's done with me is, when I fill in all the required fields and try to post the comment, refresh and leave the log-in fields empty as though I hadn't filled them in yet. No error message, just --- poof, data gone. Comment still there, but open ID and word verification data vanished.

I was using an LJ openID, so who knows, maybe blogger and LJ don't get along?

(And ironically, my browser lost contact with the LJ server the first time I tried to leave this comment.)

Yeah, I've noticed several "mini outages" on LJ today.

No, but two major internet provides (Comcast and Verizon) have been having fits today, so bets the server farms are having problems somehow.

I have problems with Open ID all the time! But since I have gmail, I mainly use my google login info to leave comments on blogger.com

But I've been seriously thinking of self-hosting my genealogy blog using the Wordpress platform. If I do, I will probably make that move soon before I accumulate tons of post that I will have to export and import to the new site.

With regards to cost, the Wordpress blog platform is free to everyone at wordpress.org. So the cost of webhosting (which will also include free domain name registration), runs as cheap as $3.95 per month is a great deal!

With regards to maintenance, that will depend on your comfort level with dealing with websites (not necessarily dealing with html code) and the amount of time you want to spend with your site maintenance. I like LJ very much, but I find what I can do with it, in comparison to my other website -- which I am moving to a blog platform that I will have customized for re-launch by mid-March -- is so limited. My comfort level with setting up the database which runs the blog, as well as installing all of the software upgrades, themes, and plugins that make a blog functional, is above average. So where I love tinkering with website and now blog platforms, others may not like dealing with it.

I always have problems and have never figured out the secret. On the days when I can comment, I try to make several. Some days, I sigh and accept that I won't be able to comment. On still other days, I complain and yell at my computer because there is a blog post that I want so badly to comment on, but can't.
