The more I study my extended family's migration to Pope County, AR from Lawrence County, TN in 1838, the more impressed I am.

A whole bunch of people made that trip. Including the Stricklands.

The Strickland family patriarch, Zacariah, was 68 years old. His wife, Elizabeth Hamilton, was a spry 58. Zacariah died in 1840, two years after their arrival. Elizabeth died in 1851.

All but one of the couple's 7 adult children (that I have accounted for) made the trip with spouses and young children in tow. Archibald Strickland and his wife, Margaret Foster, stayed in Tennessee.

They came in ox drawn wagons, with many of the younger adults and children walking a good portion of the way. They crossed the Mississippi River, and I have not yet documented a drowning.

381 miles.

I am in awe.
