Dee, that first photo is fabulous! She has great style. I love her simple dress with the loose waist, how she's holding it up just a little, and I love her longish jacket with the tie pulled to the back. Not to mention her pose. As I look at photos on blogs I'm often surprised at what photos were taken. This is gorgeous photo of such a simple action. Love it!

That is one of my favorite photos of Ruth. Given the hardships in her life in later years, I am always cheered by this candid shot of her in her 20s.

It's me, Karen S. I like your photos at the lake. The dock photo with the extremely large gate at the end of the dock is so funny, to me, every time I see one I know why they put them there, but gee whiz a person could tumble over along the side at anytime too!

I love the photos, but "Linky Balding" sounds so much like a character out of P.G. Wodehouse, I just had to laugh.

His name at birth was Russell Ellington Balding. I don't know if one of the kids or a playmate couldn't say Ellington, or how the name came about.

His wife always called him Russell. But I always called him Uncle Linky. He was a lot of fun...

Your photographs have such an evocative air about them. My favourites the first one and the one of Linky and friend - he looks so nonchalant in that "oh so casual but smart" tie - very 1920's.

The jetty with the 'gate' at the end appears twice (Ruth & her husband and Linky 7 a gal. Do you know where it was?

The family visited California several times during the mid 1920s and later 1930s. I'm sure that's the state, but not sure which beach.
