Trying to send these photos back home

Got this one for a bargain today at the flea market.

I paid 80 cents.

One of my other hobbies is keeping an eye out for old family photos that have become separated from their rightful owners by time and distance.

I look for the ones with writing on them.

I found a tree on Ancestry with some of these folks in it.

Sent a private message to the owner, asking if he wants the photo.

Now, we wait...

That's fascinating. Patsy Myles is a ringer for one of my maternal grandfather's many brothers... I wonder if there was a Myles in the woodpile of an otherwise staid Caernarvon family? *g*.

Wouldn't that be a hoot?

The guy I pm'd on Ancestry answered. He was thrilled I had the photo and wanted to get it to him. I emailed him scans and then surface mailed the photo.

I love this. I have the same inclination, but so far have not purchsed photos to return to families. I have tried to find the families for photos of soldiers and friends of my mother that I found in her scrapbook. I have had some success, and it makes me happy to think of their surprise when they first read my email. However, I have not been able to find any family members for my mother's best friend, and I have many photos of her. I had no response from the one son I tried to contact - why wouldn't you want photos of your mother?

That's just incomprehensible to me. I mean, even if the relationship was lousy during the "good" times - like mine was with my own mother - I'd still want the photos.

Oh well...don't they say it takes all kinds to make a world?
