Sepia Saturday: Hats

I have a fair number of photos of my family decked out in their hats.

I even have an ancestress who made them.

The millinery shop of my g-g-grandmother, Mary Emily Conner, in Grenada Co., MS, about 1870-1875.



My grand-aunts, Ocie (left) and Arkie Burris, photo about 1909.



My grandfather, his brother and their double cousins, Elbert and Earl. Photo about 1905.

And there is even a lady with two hats! Also I like the way Elbert Burris wears his hat, very casual! The hats of your great-aunts Ocie and Arkie seem so huge. No wonder they keep them at their feet.

My paternal grandmother was also a milliner, but she worked for someone else, and I don't know who YET. Funny, my maternal grandmother always wore those big bows in every photo I have of her as a child. Wonderful photographs!!

Really wonderful images! I feel like I've stepped back into time.

The last shot has me perplexed because the fellows in the front are obviously sitting but the guy on the left looks like his legs are simply missing.

I am The daughter of Earl Burris brother of Elbert. That isn’t my dad in the in the photo.
He wasn’t born until 1901.

I guess my granddaddy GW Jr, and his brother Homer were wrong. They were the ones who told me this was the picture of double cousins. I'm sure I misdated the photo. Was looking to see how far back my granddad had hair...
