I can only imagine it was great-grandma Maxie's idea to take photos of the Williams' family home in Russellville, and turn them into postcards.

So, in 1910, son Paul used one to write Mama from Little Rock:

Am leaving for H S (Hot Springs) in about an hour. Got here about 11.30. Stayed at Torrey House. Paul.

This is a Sepia Saturday post.

They used to have so many family photographs that would be printed on postcard back card so they could be used as postcards. Which is a wonderful idea and something that should be so easy to do these days, but is not very fashionable in this Facebook and Texting age

Sometimes progress loses some very neat details, doesn't it?

Although I can't say it with certainty, I suspect that the photographers who mproduced these cards would go from house to house, touting for business.

What a lovely little house. Always wanted one like that. My knees have now convinced me a second story is not in the cards.

There are so many of these postcards and photos around that are unidentified. You know who the people were and whose house it was, but that information is not on the card.

If we consistently posted our photos with our facebook and email messages, all would be well. I love getting gmail messages from folks who have added their pictures to their profile. Somehow it makes me feel like I'm talking to them in person.
