First is a page of a ship passenger list - the SS La Savoie, which sailed from Le Havre and docked in New York on 7 Jun 1914.

Photobucket

The passenger I am interested in is Marko Vuletic, on line 3.

But I am most interested in the name of Marko's father, at the end of line 3...

I zoomed it up to eleventy million, and still am not sure what it says.

I think it says, My parents - Pater V _ _ _ko Vuletic _ _ Krstinja, Croatia

I figured Pater was Latin, father, and that his father's name follows.

Krstinja is the Croatian village where he was born.

Marko's brother, Vaso, spoke Serbian all his life.

After looking at it and looking at it the only thing I could come up with is:

My parents Vater (Father in German) or Pater, but the first letter sure looks like the V to me. The name could be Variko, Vasiko, but my best guess would be Variko - maybe.

Know anyone who speaks Croatian?

B

It appears to be the same handwriting all the way across and the letter "V" is consistent from the name you do know to the script on the right- at least that's how it looks to me.

I'm reading Vater Veriko Vuletic

Veriko checked out as an actual name online, as does Vuletic. I think that the other two blank letters might be "of".

That's a thought...

The other two letters could be "at."

More than I had when I posted.

Hey, I looked up some male croatian names and found Vinko (Vincent). That is a possibility.

You may be right about that.
