Amazing how easily thinking about one thing can immediately cause me to think about my family history.

Like, I killed my subscription last month to our only daily, statewide newspaper. (If you are curious, here's the link to my open letter to the paper in my "everything else" blog.)

Until 1991, it had competition by the newspaper I read, the Arkansas Gazette.

Which led me to looking up the history of my paper.

Which led me to the name of the editor of the Gazette during the 1957 desegregation crisis in Little Rock.

Harry Scott Ashmore.

Who, as it turns out, is my 4th cousin, twice removed.

I didn't know him personally.

But still.

That's neat.

I always knew I liked your style but after reading your letter to the subscription department, I like you even more. Great quote. I have never heard that one before.

I wondered about it as a kid.

Commented to my dad, who had an aunt who dipped snuff. And I'd remember it dried on her chin.

Nah, he didn't have an explanation, either.

I'm not surprised to hear that everything you see and do leads to thoughts about your family history. Genealogy runs through your veins - that's why - LOL!

4th cousin twice removed . . . Imagine that? Yep, that is neat!
