The FSA captioned this one - a bunch of men hanging outside the Batesville Courthouse in Independence Co., AR.

This photo offers me so many lines of thinking. Were they farmers? Was this taken during the depression? If they were farmers, was it just before harvest time? Was it a Saturday afternoon and the farmers of the community usually gathered around the courthouse for an afternoon visit? Were they there for a court hearing? Were they waiting the outcome of a trial? I wish I could get answers to my questions!
